Frequently Asked Question

What can I ask my Mentor?

You can ask a mentor anything related to your start to university. You can also ask mentors general questions related to your course. Mentors know from personal experience what it is like to be a new student! They give you important 'insider information' that only a student would know from experience. They are friendly, helpful, approachable and available for your support. You cannot ask your mentor to proof read your assignments, provide academic tutoring, be your student representative, or provide high level of counseling for stress or personal issues etc. Your mentor CAN direct you to professional, free support services on campus that can assist you in these areas, so please ask them for that direction

Do I have to use my mentor?

Mentors are assigned to all new to Curtin students in their first semester. No you do not have to use your mentor, however if you have been contacted by your mentor and you do not intend to communicate with them, email them to let them know that you do not need any assistance at this time. HOWEVER it is in your best interest to maintain contact with your mentor throughout your first semester - there may come a time during semester when you need assistance and will need your mentor's help and guidance
